Practice was moved to Mitchell due to rain.
Focus: no-turn offense
After some debate about Wilbur, the pros and cons of fighting with the hurling team and/or Bloodthirsty, PrettyFly carpooled to Mitchell.
It was a windy, windy, cold, scattered showers day. Perfect for practicing our no-turn offense!
Drill: PrettyFly vs. Ground (and wind), game to 10
In this drill PrettyFly started with 7 on the line receiving the pull. Their objective was to work it up the field and score. If the ground got the disc, it scored a point. First team to 10 won.
This game was filled with insight.
"Guys, ground does not go to!"
"Let's take our time there is no D!"
"Even if there is no D, don't get lazy, keep making cuts."
"Don't throw something you aren't comfortable throwing ."
And my favorite quote, "Is that a ninja?"
Final score: 10-9 GROUND over PrettyFly.
When we are playing offense, we should recognize two kinds of turnovers -- those that are errors on our own part (throwing, catching) and those that are D's generated with our opponents (blocks, stalls, etc.). While we should acknowledge and respect great D's earned by our competitors, we should also pay attention to our own errors and work on minimizing them. How many turns are results of not looking the disc into our hands, not stepping into our throws, throwing too soon, throwing too far or too short, not calling a foul? All of these errors are within our control to eliminate by working on our throws, going-to the disc, and being mentally collected.
Drill: Four-corners drill. We took advantage of the wind to practice our throws in every direction.
Drill: Up-wind huck drill. Finished off the day with some sprinting, reading in the wind, and hucking.
And then there were rainbows!
