Back at sandhill!
The focus of practice was learning a four person pull play. In the pull play, each player gets a position: 1. catch, 2. thrower, 3. man, 4. buddy, 5. short fill, 6. deep fill, and 7. seven:).
The job of the *catch* is to catch the disc. She should count down 3-2-1-catching. The job of the thrower is the yell which side of the field everyone else should flood (typically the side that the disc is going to land on) and move upfield. When *catch* catches the disc, *thrower* should make a cut to receive the first pass. *Thrower* should gain yards and look to center the disc! After *thrower* yells out a side for the flood, everyone except for *man* should sprint to that side and stack very short. We want the deep space to be available on both sides of the field! The order of the stack is *seven*, *short fill*, *deep fill*, and *buddy* (*buddy* is the last person in the stack).
At the same time, *man* should look to set up in the middle of the field, about 5 yards from where *thrower* is going to catch the first pass. As *thrower* catches the pass from *catch*, *man* should plant and start sprinting deep. *Thrower* should look to throw a forehand or a backhand down either sideline. DO NOT THROW OVER THE HEAD of *MAN*! A throw out to either side should be easier to execute and it'll be easier to read!
Once *man* commits to the deep cut, buddy should make a cut towards the disc from the back of the stack (if *man* come back underneath, *buddy* will cut away). If buddy's defender poaches deep to defend man, *thrower* should hit *buddy*. If both defenders are playing honest, *thrower* has an option of hitting either *man* or *buddy*. *Deep fill* should be patient and stay short until the throw goes up. If the throw goes to *man*, *deep fill* will sprint and be the continue. If the throw goes to *buddy*, *man* will come back and cut in for buddy, and *deep fill* will cut deep for *man*.
The goal of pull play is to score quickly!
Drill: run pull play with offense only until we score 5 in a row (SUCCESS!).
Drill: 7 on 5 10-pull game (7 on offense and 5 on defense), running pull play on offense.
