Thur April 9

Focus: Man O and D.

We did not have full attendance this practice.
This practice we reviewed defensive positioning in Man D and cutting techniques in Man O.

Warm-up 2 games of 3 on 3.

Drill: Hotzone drill focused on D
Remember we want to chose what we take away, and anticipate what we are giving up as defenders. On man D this means we are positioning ourselves either to take away the in-cut, or to take away the out-cut and trying to make a bid on the option that we allow. As defenders, we have to accept that we cannot cover everything effectively, so we prepare, as a team, for what the O is most likely to do. In deciding how to position yourself, here are some things to consider. Are you faster, taller, or read the disc better than your opponent? Does your opponent prefer to cut-in and then throw or go deep? As a team, we may decide on one strategy to exploit the other team's weaknesses, such as forcing everyone under against a team that has good hucks.

Drill: Hotzone drill focused on O
The best way to get open is to pay attention to the play as it develops and cut early, when your defender is least expecting it. Other tactics include changes in speed and direction, "walking" your defender out of position, charging your defender (without fouling them), and stutter stepping. It's a good idea to consistently cut both in and deep so your defender respects both options and will bite on good fakes. On deep cuts remember not to cut into the alley or open space where the thrower can put up a huck.
